Build a CV with Claude: the TakeMeUp Connector

In short
To build a CV with Claude, add TakeMeUp.cv to Claude as a custom connector with the address https://takemeup.cv/api/mcp, sign in with your TakeMeUp account and choose Allow. Claude can then create, edit, check, preview and translate CVs directly in your account — a real, formatted CV with templates and country conventions — instead of you copy-pasting text between a chat and a Word file. Paying, deleting a CV and giving AI consent stay on the TakeMeUp website.
Build a CV with Claude: what the TakeMeUp connector does
Most people who use Claude for a CV do it by copy-paste: paste the old CV into the chat, ask for improvements, paste the answer back into a document, then fix the formatting by hand. It works, but the CV lives in two places, the layout breaks on every round trip, and Claude never sees the finished page.
A connector removes the copy-paste step. It uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard Claude uses to connect to other apps. TakeMeUp.cv runs an MCP server at https://takemeup.cv/api/mcp. Once you connect it and sign in, Claude works on your actual TakeMeUp account: it reads your CVs, writes changes into them field by field, and can show you what page 1 looks like.
- Your CV stays structured. Roles, dates, skills and education are saved as separate fields, so a new template or a translation doesn't scramble them.
- The template does the formatting, not you. Claude changes the content; TakeMeUp lays it out and exports it as a PDF or Word file.
- Claude can run real checks instead of guessing: ATS readability, GDPR, and the six-second skim test.
- It can look up local rules. Claude can read the CV conventions TakeMeUp uses for each country — whether to add a photo or a date of birth, and which date format to use.
What you need before you connect
- A Claude account. As of October 2026, Anthropic offers custom connectors on the Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans; on the Free plan you can add one custom connector.
- A TakeMeUp.cv account. If you don't have one yet, you can create it during sign-in.
- The connector address: https://takemeup.cv/api/mcp. As of October 2026, TakeMeUp is not yet listed in Claude's connector directory (the listing is pending), so you add it yourself by URL, as a custom connector.
- On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner of your organisation adds custom connectors under Organization settings → Connectors. You then find TakeMeUp under Customize → Connectors and click Connect.
How to connect TakeMeUp in claude.ai and the Claude apps
These steps follow Anthropic's help pages as of October 2026 and use the menu names of Claude's English interface. The layout of the dialog can differ slightly from account to account.
- In claude.ai or the Claude desktop app, open Customize → Connectors.
- Click Add custom connector (in some layouts, + Add first), give it a name such as TakeMeUp, and paste https://takemeup.cv/api/mcp as the server URL.
- If Claude asks how people sign in, choose Sign in now. If it asks about the OAuth client, keep the recommended Use Claude's published identity and leave the client ID and secret empty — TakeMeUp doesn't need them.
- Click Add, then Connect. A takemeup.cv page opens: sign in to your TakeMeUp account, or create one.
- Read the consent screen — it names the assistant asking for access — and choose Allow. You are sent back to Claude.
- In a chat, click + → Connectors and check that TakeMeUp is switched on.
On a phone: as of October 2026, Anthropic says custom connectors are added on claude.ai or in the desktop app (installing them directly on mobile is still in beta). Once added, the connector also works in the Claude mobile apps.
How to connect TakeMeUp in Claude Code
Claude Code, Anthropic's coding tool for the terminal, adds remote MCP servers with one command:
- In a terminal, run: claude mcp add --transport http takemeup https://takemeup.cv/api/mcp. By default the server is added for the current project; add --scope user to use it in all your projects.
- Start Claude Code, type /mcp, select takemeup and choose Authenticate (or run claude mcp login takemeup). Your browser opens the same TakeMeUp sign-in and consent screen; choose Allow.
- Back in Claude Code, ask for what you need. Claude Code stores the sign-in and refreshes it automatically; claude mcp logout takemeup clears it.
What Claude can do with your TakeMeUp account
Once connected, Claude can do much of what you can do in the TakeMeUp editor — always on your instructions:
- Read and write CVs: list and open your CVs, create a new one (blank or from a role preset), fill it in, edit it and switch templates.
- Import an existing CV: attach your CV file in the Claude chat; Claude reads it and saves it into TakeMeUp as a structured CV.
- Country conventions: look up the photo, date-of-birth and date-format conventions per country, for the 14 languages TakeMeUp supports.
- Free checks: the ATS check, the GDPR check, the six-second skim test and the weak-achievement finder — plus a preview of page 1 as an image.
- PRO AI features: AI rewrite, cover letter, job match, interview prep, career gaps, LinkedIn profile, translation into a new CV, CV summary, buzzword check, aging check, authenticity score and market pulse. The one-click CV makeover is saved as a new CV, so your original stays as it was.
- Sharing (PRO): a public share link, a QR code or an anonymised stealth CV. These make your CV public, so Claude creates them only when you ask.
- Europass export (PRO): your CV as Europass XML or JSON.
- Job tracker: list your applications, add one from a job ad or its URL, update the status and set follow-up dates. Free accounts can track up to 5 applications.
- Get found: let verified recruiters find your CV, and approve or decline their contact requests.
- Downloads: a download link for the PDF or Word file, valid for 10 minutes.
Prompts to try
Be specific about the job, the country and what you want changed. A few examples:
- “Create a CV for a warehouse job in Germany from my attached CV.”
- “Tailor my CV to this job ad and add it to my tracker.” (paste the ad or its link)
- “Check my CV for ATS problems and fix the ones you can.”
- “Run the six-second test and tell me what a recruiter sees first.”
- “Find my weakest achievement bullets and rewrite them with the numbers I give you.”
- “Translate my CV into French as a new CV and adapt it to French conventions.”
- “Show me page 1, then switch to a more conservative template.”
Read what Claude writes before you send the CV anywhere. It works from what you tell it and what is already in your CV, so give it the real facts — numbers, tools, dates — and correct anything that's off. A CV with your real results reads better than a polished generic one.
What stays on the TakeMeUp website
The connector follows the same plan rules as the website, and a few actions are deliberately left out of it:
- Free: building, editing and previewing CVs, and the free checks.
- Downloading a CV needs a one-time purchase for that CV, or PRO (PRO includes a monthly download allowance).
- The AI features need PRO. Before TakeMeUp's own AI features process your CV, you give AI consent once — on the TakeMeUp website, not through Claude.
- Claude can't pay, subscribe or change your plan, delete a CV or your account, or give AI consent for you. When something isn't included in your plan, Claude tells you and links to the pricing page; the decision and the payment stay with you.
Privacy and control
- Claude never sees your TakeMeUp password. You sign in on takemeup.cv, and Claude only gets access that works for TakeMeUp's MCP server.
- The consent screen names the assistant asking for access. If an app calls itself Claude but would send you back to an address that isn't Claude's, the screen warns you — deny it unless you set it up yourself just now.
- What Claude receives is the result of each request it makes, which can include the personal data in your CV. Anthropic handles that under its own terms and privacy policy: the assistant's provider acts at your direction and is not TakeMeUp's subprocessor.
- TakeMeUp keeps a record of each connected assistant — which assistant it is, when it was used and whether it can make changes — but never its access tokens.
- You can disconnect an assistant at any time under Connected assistants on your TakeMeUp account page; it stops working immediately, until you allow it again. You can also remove the connector in Claude under Customize → Connectors, or with claude mcp remove takemeup in Claude Code.
Limits and tips
- Each assistant can make up to 120 requests to TakeMeUp per 10 minutes, and the AI features keep their own daily limits.
- Download links expire after 10 minutes. If one has expired, ask Claude for a new one.
- Tell Claude which country you're applying in. A photo and a date of birth are expected in some countries and best left out in others, and date formats differ — Claude can check TakeMeUp's conventions for that country before it writes.
- Switch the connector off in chats where you don't need it (+ → Connectors). Anthropic's advice for every custom connector: only connect services you trust and review what Claude does with them.

Frequently asked questions
Is it free to build a CV with Claude and TakeMeUp?
Building, editing, previewing and the free checks (ATS, GDPR, six-second test, weak-achievement finder) are free. Downloading a CV needs a one-time purchase for that CV or PRO, and the AI features need PRO — the same rules as on the website. On Claude's side, custom connectors are available on all plans as of October 2026, but the Free plan allows only one.
Does Claude see my TakeMeUp password?
No. You sign in on takemeup.cv and choose Allow on a consent screen; Claude gets access that works only for TakeMeUp's MCP server. TakeMeUp never stores the assistant's access tokens — only a record of which assistant is connected, when it was used and whether it can make changes.
Can Claude delete my CV or pay for something?
No. Deleting a CV or your account, paying, changing your plan and giving AI consent are not possible through the connector — they stay on the TakeMeUp website. When a feature isn't in your plan, Claude tells you and links to the pricing page.
Does it work with ChatGPT or other AI assistants?
TakeMeUp's connector is currently built and tested for Claude: claude.ai, the Claude desktop and mobile apps, and Claude Code. Other assistants that support remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in may work, but they aren't supported yet.
Can Claude import my existing CV?
Yes. Attach your CV file in the Claude chat and ask Claude to save it to TakeMeUp. It reads the file and saves it as a structured CV that you can then edit, check and restyle.
How do I disconnect Claude from TakeMeUp?
Open your TakeMeUp account page and disconnect the assistant under Connected assistants — it stops working immediately, until you allow it again. You can also remove the connector in Claude under Customize → Connectors, or run claude mcp remove takemeup in Claude Code.
