Software Developer CV Example (2026)

This example is for a full-stack developer with a few years' experience who wants a senior role. It shows how to pair your stack with what you shipped and measured: speed, conversion, reliability and release frequency.

A fictional example: the person, the employers and the contact details are invented. Shown in the Helix template.

Why this CV works

  • Rebuilt the merchant onboarding flow in React and TypeScript, cutting average sign-up time from 25 minutes to 9 and raising completed sign-ups by 18%.

Names the stack, the feature and two business results. Hiring managers see both the technical and product impact.

  • Cut p95 response time on the payments API from 820 ms to 310 ms by adding PostgreSQL indexes and caching frequent reads in Redis.

A real performance metric (p95) with before and after numbers and the exact fix shows depth, not buzzwords.

  • Moved 14 services from manual deploys to a GitHub Actions pipeline with automated tests; releases went from fortnightly to several a day.

Release frequency is a result teams care about, and it shows he improves how the team works.

  • Raised unit test coverage on the agency's shared component library from 35% to 80% with Jest.

Testing is often skipped on CVs; a measured improvement shows he writes code others can trust.

  • Full-stack software developer with six years building web products in TypeScript, React and Node.js, most recently on a B2B payments platform.

Years, stack and domain in the first sentence, so a recruiter can match him to the role in seconds.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Listing 30 technologies with no sign of what you built with them. Put the main stack in each job, next to the result.
  • Describing tickets (“worked on the API”) instead of shipped results such as speed, conversion, uptime or release frequency.
  • Leaving out scale: users, requests, team size or services. It tells the reader what level you already work at.

Country tip

UK tech employers check right to work, and many job ads say whether they sponsor visas; if you need sponsorship, say so in your application rather than leaving it to the offer stage. Leave off your photo and date of birth, and if you hold UK security clearance (SC or DV), list it, as defence and government roles filter on it.

Frequently asked questions

What should a software developer CV include?

A one-line profile with your stack and years, then each job with what you built and what changed: speed, conversion, reliability, users. Add a grouped skills section and your degree or bootcamp.

Should I put a GitHub link on my developer CV?

Yes, if it shows work you are proud of, such as a well-documented project or contributions to open source. An empty or abandoned profile does more harm than good, so tidy it first.

How long should a software developer CV be?

One page for junior developers, two pages at most for experienced ones. Cut old tech and duties first, and keep the results.
